Are you walking according to your purpose?

Updated: Sep 23, 2022

Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. First, we must understand that we are created to glorify him. Isaiah 43:7- Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. So many times, we get hooked on titles and we spend our lives trying to live up to these titles; whether we are mothers, fathers, leaders, Pastors, husbands, wives and any other, you may think of. We do not have to figure out our purpose, when we glorify him, we are literally walking out our purpose and we don’t have to try to figure it out because we walk into it by glorifying Him! This is our priority! While we are busy trying to accomplish these titles or meet these thresholds, we lose sight of God which leads us to losing our essential purpose to glorify God. You can be the best leader and ultimately, you are not leaving your purpose, you CAN get caught up in the work and not the Word. In Luke 10:38-42, we see the story of Mary and Martha, where Mary was at the feet of Jesus doing what she was created to do while Martha was distracted with work. Look at your life today, are you Mary or Martha?) The way to walk into our purpose is to trust God because He made us after the counsel of HIS will. Ephesians 1:11- In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will. We are not born trusting God, especially if we have had circumstances in life that lead us not to trust anyone in our surroundings and/or God either. So we come to trust God 1st through our parents. In the book of Deuteronomy, we see where God commanded the parents to teach their children the Law, as we must continue to do today. Another way we come to trust God is through our leaders- Ephesians 4:11-12: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. God has placed ordained and anointed men and women over us to lead us into His purpose and to help us develop our relationship with Him. We are to apply the teachings that our leaders are pouring out into our lives. As in every relation, we must spend time with each other in order strengthen the bond we share- it is the same with God. We cannot worship God in the Spirit just praying on the go, we need to have a time set aside for him. Husband/wife; mother father, friends don’t you make that time to spend with your kids and brings you closer. The more time you spend together the more you get to know that person and the stronger that relationship becomes, same with God. We cannot come to know our purpose outside of God! The more time we spend in prayer and in His Word, the more our relationship with Him grows and by doing that, we are actually walking in our purpose. When we love we do not focus on self, we are saved to serve! As my First Lady says in in one hand, we glorify God and with the other we serve. When we give, it shows maturity. When we don’t give, we are like a child that has a “gimme” like spirit, we pray and ask God for something and He blesses us with it, we keep all to ourselves. As Paul states in 1st Corinthians 13:11- When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. Understand that all that, we cannot be hoarders and keep all for us and our families; through giving to others, we are fulfilling our purpose. What is your relationship like with your spouse? How do you treat your kids? Can your family say that you treat them with love, and they see the Love God within you? How do you demonstrate love when you are home? Can your kids, husband/wife testify of you? What about work, you might be the only Bible that that person is reading? Through everything we do, we must give God glory; especially by loving them through Christ! Some people do good just for the sake of doing good because it makes them “feel” good. As a child of God we ought to do good at all times. Regardless of the circumstances, we can do it through the Holy Spirit. Basing on lives on whether we smoke, or drink is not enough! We must do things by being intentional of pleasing God and doing it to His glory! Yes, you may have good morals, but do you have the spirit of God? That is the difference between doing good and being a child of God. A child of God does like God! How does all this actually happen? If you’re like me, you may have tried many different things, hoping that you would find your purpose in your doings, your works, your titles. As much as I love being a mother to my children, it does not define my purpose. It all comes to the fact that we cannot do it ourselves. Even when we have the right motives and know all the right things to do; we simply cannot do it within our own strength. Here is the answer-Ezekiel 36:25-27- Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. This is the only way that we can do this because we are not the one doing it ourselves, but God is doing it in us and through us. Through his Holy Spirit he gives us power that we can do it! So, the next time you go to talk to your spouse in a certain way; say God do it in me according to your word. The next time you go, and you don't submit to your leaders; say Lord do it in me! God says,

  • I WIL CAUSE YOU! I will cause you to love that brother!

  • I will cause you to forgive that coworker!

  • I will cause you to love and forgive that person who raped you!

  • I will cause you to leave that habit that you picked up because of the abuse! I will cause you to walk out of that relationship that is causing you harm!

Whatever it is, God says, I WILL CAUSE YOU to do it! It is His Spirit in you working through you! Remember, He created you to glorify him, you were made for His Glory! Will you let God do it today?
