Delight means to please or be please greatly. It is that which makes us happy, makes us giggle, brings joy within our hearts, puts a smile on our face. It tells the world, "This is what I really love to do, this is the place I would really love to dwell."
In the KJV, 119th Psalm, the Psalmist using the word “delight” to describe the feelings about the statutes, the testimonies, the commandments, the laws of God.
Psalm 119
16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
The word "statue" is speaking of governing, a statute may forbid a certain act or direct a certain action. The Psalmist is saying, "The ways that You have said, that which is the right way for me to walk: I willingly and gladly, will walk in that way. I won't forget what You have stated, even when I am around those that don't follow Your Word, whether at work or play.
24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.
A testimony tells the truth of all that has happened in a situation. The testimonies of God in His Word, gives us so much joy, encouragement and faith. Because it reveals how He is always there even when we can't feel Him or hear Him, ask Job. It reveals He is a provider and a keeper of His Word in the emptiness of our lives, ask Abraham. His testimonies put a smile on our faces and joy in our hearts and provides wise counsel for our lives.
35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.
47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.
77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.
92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.
We learn, that as we keep the Word of God, His Word keeps us. Because in our afflictions, we would have done things out of our fears, that would cause us to perish. But blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who causes us to live.
143 Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.
174 I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord; and thy law is my delight.
Today, life us your hands and your hearts, delight yourself in the God of your salvation. The joy of knowing not only can you delight in Him but, "He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because He delighted in me." Ps. 18:19
Give God the glory and the honor and bless His Holy name, for He is good and His mercy endureth forever. Yes, we can dwell in that place of peace, that place that brings joy within our hearts, puts a smile on our face, builds our confidence and faith in Him. How? Because God is His Word, and through His Word you will enter into His presence, where there is fullness of joy.
