For the next 3 months we are going to look at methods that the Bible describes for growth. 
 

First method, The Vine and the Husbandman (The Gardener) (KJV) found in John 15:1-17
 

                                                         This week focus verses 1-4:
1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman."
Here we see Jesus revealing the method of "who he is and also how through the powerful work of God together will bring about the changes that is needed in you. The husbandman, the Gardener, is going to do a work on you and in you that will cause you to grow, to progress and to produce.  

2 "Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit." 
In a natural garden a branch that looks like it is connected but don't bear fruit can happen because, the branch is not truly connected or attached to the vine. It may look like it, it may appear to be in the vine. But there are no real life or sap and source that is coming out from the vine into the branch. It only appears to be growing, but it will in time be revealed to be dead inside, Jesus said it will be cut off from him.
But there is another cutting away also done by the Husbandman to those that are truly His. The Father will cut off and away: things, people, and situations that will stop your growth and at the same time promote your progress. It is for this reason, that your heart and desire is constantly crying out, "Lord, I need You, I want You, please give me more and more of You. It is not more and more of things, people or positions, but more and more of You!!!"

 

3 "Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you."
It is not only what God is doing in your life right now, that deserve the praise, but it is what He has already been doing. When you think of how God kept you, not just from others, but God's word protected you from you!!! He has already been revealing, already been cleaning up and clearing out the uncleanness in you. For this reason, you should be giving Him glory. It was all the Word that Jesus had spoken to the disciples that brought about this great blessing in them and for them. For this reason, we should always be desiring his presence.

4 "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me."
The word Abide simply means to "stay still, don't move. Jesus said, "abide in me, meaning, stop moving in your mind, in our behavior.
How do we abide in Christ? By reading his word and placing our faith in his word and don't allow issues, people or situations to cause us to move from what he has said in his word for us to do.
 

"And I in you" means that His word that we Abide in is a certainty, it represents the Truth for us.

It means as it is in God's purpose and God's promise, that is what should be in our prayers and as well in our praises to Him. Christ will dwell in us, not just to us, but in and through us.

The branch cannot cause itself to bear fruit, the branch can't produce life of itself, it gets it source from the vine. just as you and I cannot bring forth fruit of ourselves.  It is what flow from Christ to us, that cause us to grow, progress and produce the fruit of the Spirit in us. Just as it is in the natural, the sap flow to the vine and into the branch. 

 

Remember that each process takes time
 

- The Abiding takes time, "Holy Spirit teach us, help us to stay still, in you."
- The flow of the sap, the life source of the Word of God from the Vine to the branch that is another progressive process of time, "Holy Spirit help us to wait on and for the provision and process of God to us and for us." 

- I in you, takes time, as the months are passing and the life source from the Vine is at work in the branches producing fruit. So, it is for us, as the Word of God is working in us, cleaning us, strengthening us, building up, repairing up, transforming us. Holy Spirit we look to you to keep us.
