OPD presents scholarship to winning candidate
Leaders for Change making changes in the lives of the youth in our community: "2018 Scholarship Recipient/ Step Team / Fashion Show/ Art Contest and Poetry Contest/ Photos from our "Pathway to Success Gala" 2013 & 2015
February 24th 2018, 7 pm at the Smith Center Neighborhood Community Center, Leaders for Change (LFC) sponsored "Inspire our Youth." The event included: a Scholarship that was given away to Widlyne Israel, an Art and Poetry Contest, the winners work was to be displayed at the Wells Built Museum of African American History and Culture, Fashion Show, door prizes and Step Team. LFC had also partner with the local NAACP Youth Council as well. There were other organizations in attendance; POP and the Rock Association, the Orlando Police Dept. sent a representative to present the award.
It was an evening that was filled inspiration and fun, we are looking forward to next year.
THIS BRANCH OF THE ORGANIZATION FOCUSES ON WORKING WITH AT RISK YOUTHS WHO ARE HERE IN OUR OWN COMMUNITIES. LEADERS FOR CHANGE IS COMING TOGETHER WITH LEADERS, ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES TO HELP YOUTHS AT RIST THAT GOES IN AND OUT OF THE SYSTEM, FOSTER CARE AND YOUNG ADULTS REBBUILDING THEIR LIVES. THEY NEED TO KNOW THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT CARE ABOUT THEM AND THEIR FUTURE; TO HELP THEM TO FURTHER THEIR EDUCATION. THEY NEED TO KNOW THERE IS HOPE AND A BRIGHTER FUTURE DESPITE EVERYTHING THAT THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH. LFC, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND BUSINESSES SOWING TOGETHER WILL BRING ABOUT A GREAT HARVEST THAT WILL HELP TO MAKE THEM RESPONSIBLE AND PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS AS WELL.
WAYS TO BRING CHANGES:
1. GRANTS FOR EDUCATION
2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AWARDS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE THAT ARE MAKING EFFORTS DAILY SUCH AS THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE IN BIBLE, ART, MATH, SCIENCE, READING CLUBS AND DIFFERENT CHURCH AND SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND TO DO THE WORK THAT WILL BRING ABOUT REAL CHANGES IN THEIR LIVES
3. EVENTS THAT HELPS THE YOUTH WHO ARE UNDERPRIVILEGED AND AT RISK TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING A PART OF THE COMMUNITY. IT WILL PROVIDE THEM WITH A SENSE OF STABILITY, PURPOSEFULNESS, RESPONSIBLE CHARACTER THAT WILL IN RETURN STRENGTHEN THEMSELVES AND THEIR COMMUNITY
4. LFC PARTNERING WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE MAKING CHANGES IN THE COMMUNITY AS WELL
5. TEACHING THEM ABOUT GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH VOLUNTEERING AND CARING FOR OTHER CITIZENS
